Environmentally-friendly heat and air to be installed in oldest stone structure in Springfield

Stone Chapel is about to get a $1.3 million green face-lift. Interim Drury president Todd Parnell and others, including The Mayor of Springfield, broke ground Sunday for the building project. Stone Chapel is the oldest standing building on the Drury campus as well as the oldest stone structure in Springfield.

Presidential Search Committee selects Parnell

Nomination to be placed before Board of Trustees on Jan. 31

The Presidential Search Committee has nominated Todd Parnell, current interim president, to fill the permanent position. The announcement was made by John Beuerlein, chairman of the Board of Trustees, in an e-mail to members of the Drury Community. The Board will meet in a special meeting on Thurs.

CX cited for health code violations

Five critical health violations were found in Drury's Campus Exchange (CX) during a Nov. 14 inspection by the Greene County Health Department. The five critical violations included employees using the same gloves to both crack and prepare eggs, having an open beverage cup next to the slicer, meats and cheeses were at warmer temperatures than code, there was no hot water at the front sink, and the sanitizer did not have enough quaternary ammonia compound.

Class projects raise money for Zambian orphanages

Students in Leah Blakey's History of Modern Africa class have been working hard to make a lasting impact on the lives of orphans in a few of Zambia's orphanages. As a part of the class, students had to collaborate with a group on campus to "reach out to Africa and help better the lives of the orphans," Blakey said.

Spirit groups boost game attendance

SGA, independent groups bring added excitement to games

Students will have a little something more to cheer for at Drury sporting events in the future thanks in part to the Student Government Association's (SGA) efforts to start a spirit group on campus that would encourage attendance at athletic events. The idea started when SGA received an outside donation of $5000 from an alumnus to be used in promoting attendance at athletic events.

Preparation important when studying abroad

About 26 students are preparing to study abroad next semester in five countries on two continents. These students, who will be overseas in next spring, have gone through or are in the process of finishing up their orientation at Drury preparing them for their experience abroad.

Comer Community Expo provides students with information for success

As part of their collaborative partnership with Yale University's Comer School Development Program, Drury hosted the community event, "Pathways to the Future" on Dec. 3 at Central High School. This is the third year that Drury has sponsored the event in collaboration with Springfield Public Schools.

Dr. Evan Tlesla Adams to speak about Physicians for all Populations

Dr. Evan Tlesla Adams, an actor and writer British Columbia, Canada, will visit Drury as the university's convocation speaker on Dec. 6. Adams is the first president of the Healing Our Spirit British Columbia First Nations AIDS Society, he was instrumental in helping to provide prevention education for Aboriginal people in both urban and rural First Nations communities throughout British Columbia.

Pool Art Center Gallery to feature playable, artistic putting greens

First Friday Art Walk will have a unique and interactive look this month at Drury University. The Artists of the Warmack Faculty Studios of Drury University and The Society of Physics Students Action Squad host the gallery "Art Putt". The gallery consists of playable putting greens based on each Drury art faculty member's own unique perspective.

Rho Chis named Crest of Excellence recipients for month of November

Sorority Rho Chis Mallory Rodak, Sarah Stremme, Cory Sollecito, and Kristy Ladd have been named the Crest of Excellence recipients for November. The four women are senior officers on the Panhellenic Council and were elected to these positions by members of their individual sororities.
