The Presidential Search Committee has nominated Todd Parnell, current interim president, to fill the permanent position. "I was honored that the committee felt comfortable recommending my nomination to the full board," said Parnell. "I look forward to their review and decision.
Drury announced the construction of a $12 million special events center at a press conference earlier today. The O'Reilly Family Events Center will house a number of functions including Drury Athletics events, commencement, convocations, concerts and community functions.
On Jan. 31 seven tons of coal - enough to power Drury for six hours - will be dropped on Drury's campus to call attention to the need to conserve energy. The event is just part of a schedule of events that are going this week as part of the nationwide Focus the Nation teach-in in which Drury is participating.
Drury alumni John Beuerlein and former faculty member Dr. W. Curtis Strube will be inducted into the Breech School of Business Hall of Fame on Feb. 2. The Breech Hall of Fame was created to honor Drury alumni and faculty for outstanding professional achievement in the field of business.
Annual homecoming festivities are well underway this week across Drury's campus. This year's theme, "Lights, Camera, Action: A Hollywood Homecoming," revolves around the many events planned by members of the Student Union Board (SUB), which have included make-your-own music videos, big chair photo postcards, free Potter's house drinks, and a comedian.
The Drury Theatre Department's Fall production of "Copenhagen" was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) last week in Omaha, Neb. Drury's production was one of five shows showcased at the KCACTF Region V Festival, which includes colleges, universities, and graduate schools from North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Minnesota.
On Fri., Feb. 1 the Staff Advisory Committee (SAC) will be hosting a tailgate party in the Findlay Student Center that will include students. The tailgate party will take place during lunch hours in the commons and is SAC's final event in the Chili Cook-off the organization hosted last Halloween.
Drury University is a winner in the National Recycling Coalition's Bin Grant Competition. Drury will receive 58 bins to encourage recycling around campus. Out of 1,350 applicants, the NRC awarded 76 grants to colleges and municipalities across the country with Drury landing the only grant in the state of Missouri.
Nationally recognized artist Larry Kolden has accepted a request to join Rebecca Miller, assistant professor of Art & Art History, in teaching the summer 2008 session of Drury's new Master of Arts in Studio Art and Theory program. Kolden is an artist and craftsman who lives and works in Chicago.
Ambassador Akbar Ahmed of Pakistan will speak to the Drury community on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in Clara Thompson Hall as part of this year's Hope and Action convocation series. Ahmed's speech is entitled "From Despair to Hope: The Transformative Power of Dialogue".
