Drury University issued formal disciplinary sanctions against the school's four fraternities Monday for their involvement in September's Bid Day incident. Lambda Chi Alpha and Sigma Pi have been issued similar sanctions, while Kappa Alpha and Sigma Nu could still face more significant sanctions from their national offices.
Missouri may have only 11 electoral votes, but candidates John McCain and Barack Obama are putting in overtime to win the state. And the struggle is focusing on southwest Missouri. Drury Student Government Association has six new members among its ranks after freshmen SGA elections concluded on Sept. 18. Through an online voting process, which took place the week of Sept. 15, freshmen Jenessa Whipple, Kyle Donahue, Tyler Herrin, Tia Lambert, Jesse Lawrence and Mallory Newcomb were elect to represent the freshman class.
Lambda Chi Alpha got a little sticky last week to raise money for the Ozark Food Harvest with their annual Watermelon Fest. Unlike the ordinary food drive of canned good donations, these boys organize an annual Watermelon Fest involving seven watermelon filled activities.
The question for many Drury students this fall is not if they will vote, but how they will vote. Logistically speaking, that is. For many students, Drury is several hours from their hometowns, but that doesn't mean they have to drive all the way home to vote.
The CX is switching from grease to green. With quick, healthy options appearing more frequently than in the past, the CX lunch rush may be growing, according to Carla Cassulo, CX dining services director. The new options come from noticing what students want, Cassulo said.
The Mortar Board blood drive will take place Thurs., Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the FSC Ballroom. The event is sponsored in conjunction with the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks. All donors will receive a free Guitar Hero themed shirt and snacks.
The Habitat for Humanity Shanty Town event, an event that recognizes inadequate housing all over the world, will take place October 3-4. Participants will camp overnight on Sunderland field and build a shelter out of the provided cardboard and duck tape. Teams will consist of 3- 5 people and awards will be given out to the best shelter built.

Drury Professors Elizabeth Paddock, Ph.D., Dan Ponder, Ph.D., and Jeffrey VanDenBerg, Ph.D., present "Predicting the Unpredictable" at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2 in Clara Thompson Hall. The panel will explore and discuss the uncharted territory of the November 2008 election with the race between presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama.
Matt Miller has been name as the director of campus wellness and community outreach. This appointment is in response to the recent recommendation by the Benefits Task Force. As the director of campus wellness, Matt will develop and implement a campus wellness program for all members of the Drury community, including faculty, staff and students.
Penny Clayton, professor of Accounting, was honored by the Drury Alumni Association with its Distinguished Faculty Award. The award was given at this year's Golden Circle Luncheon over Alumni weekend. Dr. Clayton has been a faculty member since 1988. The Golden Circle is an alumni event that enables Drury to recognize the loyalty, support, and connectedness of very long classes.
