Sorority and family honor a lost sister and friend

On Sunday, November 15, at 5:00 p.m., the Drury University chapter of Pi Beta Phi held a candle light vigil in memory of a deceased Drury student and sister of Pi Beta Phi, Andrea Newbold. The members of the MO Gamma Chapter of Pi Beta Phi wished to begin their philanthropy week with the vigil around the tree planted in her honor on the lawn in front of Freeman Hall as a way to remember their beloved lost sister.

Finds that 50% tested need follow-up

Mental health screening reveals that Drury students are overworked and overstressed. There were 95 participants, online and in-person, in last week's mental health screenings conducted by Drury's Counseling Services. Of the 95 participants, slightly more than half were recommended for follow-up visits with a counselor.

Social Media certification

Drury adds new type of certification

This June, Drury University's Department of Communication will add a Social Media Certification course to the Master of Arts in Communication catalog. The certification is a two-week intensive course over marketing, media management, entrepreneurship, and culture with personalized lessons in specific social media and new technology.

Lexis-Nexis no longer an option

University opts not to renew its subscription to the database

Drury's F.W. Olin Library chose to not renew its subscription to the popular newspaper and legal document database, Lexis-Nexis. Due to a rising cost of the subscription to Lexis-Nexis, Olin Library allowed the subscription to expire on November 1. Associate librarian,s Craig Smith, explained that while the library budget has remained static, the cost of Lexis-Nexis has consistently risen over the last few years.

Veteran's Day a time for reflection, thankfulness

Drury University hosted a Veterans Day celebration last Wednesday in Weiser Gym. The celebration included a flag performance by the Ozark High School Color Guard, the Drury Singers, and a trumpet performance of the national anthem by Dean of Students Dr. Tijuana Julian.

Drury professor to discuss sex and the Bible

Drury University associate professor of religion Dr. Teresa Hornsby will present convocation on sex and the Bible this Thursday at 11 a.m. in Clara Thompson Hall. Hornsby believes this is a topic especially important for college students and will use her Biblical interpretation "to educate folks on what the Bible says and doesn't say about sexuality so that the Bible isn't used as a weapon.

Students take part in Model United Nations conference

Earlier this week, several Drury students traveled to Missouri State University to participate in the Midwest Model United Nations conference. The conference allows regional high school and junior high students the opportunity to represent the countries in the real-life United Nations; they bring their values, beliefs, economic and political circumstances and work together to create resolutions that are beneficial for as many people as possible.
