Wrapping up Drury’s athletic successes, seasons

Holding down the court

Men’s tennis wins conference title, looks to regional

The men’s tennis program is almost as dominant as the men’s swimming and diving team. Almost. The tennis Panthers recently won their fifth Great Lakes Valley Conference title in seven seasons by beating Lewis 5-3 on April 21. The Panthers are taking their level of dominance to that of the men’s swim and dive squad, which has won the last eight championships in a row. Full story

Athletic trainers keep Drury athletes on fields, courts

Drury’s athletic trainers have athletes’ careers in their hands each day. Literally. Whether it is a matter of preventative work, therapy while an athlete is injured, or post-surgery rehabilitation, Drury athletes rely on the athletic trainers to help them stay healthy and reach their peak athletic performance. Basketball arena hosts community sporting events

There is little debate that the O’Reilly Family Center has met expectations in its first full operating year. Besides hosting a few large concerts, the OFEC has hosted non-Drury sporting events. Most recently, a series of Mixed Martial Arts events were hosted by the O’Reilly Center. Full story

NCAA Basketball Tournament hoopla drives students crazy

It’s March, and “Bracketology” has entered your vocabulary for the next few weeks. Yes, I am referring to March Madness, a highly commercialized way to see who is better at an arbitrary set of bets. There is very little (and by little, I mean zero) science involved in selecting teams in your bracket for the annual NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Full story

NCAA recruiting goes digital

Recent NCAA rule changes may give Division-II schools like Drury a chance to connect with high-school recruits sooner than their larger counterparts. Earlier this year, NCAA delegates approved several changes regarding college recruitment of high-school athletes.

Senior Quentin Mack recently placed fourth at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 55-meter hurdles. However, those are easy hurdles compared to those Mack has to clear on a daily basis. He wakes up between five and six a. 1 comment

Spring training 2012, interstate-70 style

As the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals begin their spring training seasons, there are many questions to be answered. The Cardinals open spring training games on Monday against the Miami Marlins. The Cardinals are a member of the Grapefruit League, which is the spring training circuit of teams whose spring training homes are based in Florida.

Panthers look to repeat national titles

  The Drury men's swim and dive team will have to work harder than previous seasons to capture a win at the upcoming 2012 NCAA Championship in March. However, the women's team is favored to win a championship in its portion of the 2012 NCAA championship in March.

Softball season opener delayed

The season opener for the Lady Panthers softball team was cancelled on Tuesday due to inclement weather here in Springfield. Despite this setback, the Lady Panthers will begin their season today in the South Central Shootout against host Southeast Oklahoma State University at 10 a.

Filling the OFEC to the rim, rafters

On Saturday, Feb. 18, the O'Reilly Family Event Center will host "Operation: Overflow the ‘O'." This event will seek to sell out the OFEC for the first time in the arena's history. The O'Reilly Family Event Center was first opened on Oct. 1, 2010, and houses the Panthers and Lady Panthers basketball teams, as well as the Lady Panthers volleyball team.
